Choosing wedding favors and gifts is one of my (and my brides’) favorite parts of planning a wedding. Favors and gifts are given as a gesture of appreciate and gratitude to guests and do not need to be extravagant or expensive. It is really the thought that counts.
Wedding Favors for a Destination Wedding
My two favorite types of destination wedding favors are what I call “everyday re-useables” and edible treats. Everyday re-useables are items that guests may use often after they have returned home and will serve as a reminder of your wedding celebration. Popular items in this category include beach towels, beer coozies, and locally made products such as hot sauce, tea and spices. Edible treats are another favorite destination wedding favor option. After the ceremony, your guests will appreciate a little nightcap and snack.
Destination Wedding Bridal Party & Other Gifts
In addition to a token favor for your guests, consider giving gifts to your wedding party and honored guests. If giving gifts before wedding festivities, consider giving something travel related such as a sea salt foot scrub for your bridesmaids and the other special women in your lives; engraved flasks for the groomsmen; or a locally made doll for your flower girl.
Destination Wedding Welcome Bags & Baskets
A welcome bag is a wonderful way to show your appreciation to your guests and to make them feel at home. Since baskets are awkward to attempt to pack in suitcases, I assemble welcome bags using paper gift bags or personalized totes. I always include the free St. Thomas guide publications and free maps of the island. Don’t forget to include a welcome message to your guests including important phone numbers, the schedule of events and postcards.
From there, the choice is yours. Snacks, rum cakes, sunblock, bug spray and other toiletries, beach towels, and more make great additions to your welcome bag.
